It is all happening

Finally things are starting to move. I have authorised the funds to be transferred to the account of my settlement agent the requisite three working days before the settlement date of 25th July 2011 and have arranged to move in on 2nd August. The removalists will pack everything on 1st August and have from 7.00am until 3.00pm to get everything unloaded. I have arranged for them to deliver the fridge to Landsdale as I was concerned that it could be damaged if moved by amateurs, i.e Himself and his son in law. The building Manager has agreed that the washing machine can be delivered on the day of the move but so far I have not been able to contact the Asko representative to organise it; that will have to wait until next week.

I have arranged to have my mail sent on to the new address for a year and cancelled the newspapers from 23rd July to allow time for the final account to be emailed to me.

I hate leaving this house but have got to the stage where I just want it to all be over; probably a good thing as I am less likely to mourn the comforts of home.

They have really stuffed it up this time

I have received the documents to sign in order to transfer the Apartment to my name but the address on the documents puts me in Apartment 30 in a 29 apartment block with a totally fictitious address. I have been assured by my settlement agent that as long as the Lot number and Folio number are correct the address is irrelevant. Multiplex's settlement agent is aware of the problem and was fielding phone calls all yesterday. The advice is to sign anyway and the rest will sort itself out in time.

The other small problem is that the financial statement which informs me of how much I need to pay has not taken into account the 50% of the interest on my deposit to which I am entitled, which could be in the vicinity of $20,000 and my settlement agent was not able to tell me how, if and when this will be corrected. So it looks as though settlement will be some time away although officially it is set for 25th July.

I have done the final inspection of the apartment and the Multiplex rep is going to talk to "the boys' about the bad positioning of the toilet roll holder in the main bathroom. I am not holding my breath that anything will be done. The oven is tiny but I guess that I can always go across the lane to the superior hamburger place and eat takeaway ...

The towel rail in the main bathroom is right over on the opposite wall to the shower recess. The planning is so bad that I cannot understand why no-one has ever complained before. I assume that all the bathrooms are laid out on much the same plan. For what I am paying it is NOT GOOD.

The Titles for the apartments have finally been issued ...

I received an email this afternoon notifying me that the titles have finally been issued for the apartments and that settlement day is 25th July. However, I can settle before that date if I wish to, pending the documentation from the settlement agents and the return, from a week off, of the man who must do the money transfer for me, although they will accept a personal cheque from me but it will take longer to clear.

I have to give three days notice to the Building Manager and have suggested to the removalists that they liaise with him to fix a date. So it could be as early as next week but more probably the week after.

Now, after seven months of stress about the move I finally have some definite information ... and I can't get to sleep; dammit!
